Celebrating the Earth: Music Inspired by Nature
The Study Guide is designed to provide historical and stylistic insights into the compositions the students will hear on the MLC Playlist. It includes general information about the composers and analyses of the compositions themselves along with illustrations and photographs. Timelines and references provide historical contexts for each composition. Material is divided into Medieval Period, Renaissance Period, Baroque Period, Classical Period, Romantic Period, and Last Century, as well as sections on the featured composer and two additional spotlight sections. The Fundamentals of Western Music section explains concepts like pitch, rhythm and meter, harmony, tonality, texture and timbre, genre, and eras.  A glossary at the end lists terms that are printed in bold in the Study Guide. ​
