Study Guide Corrections and Clarifications
Despite our best efforts (and relentless proofreading), some mistakes find their way into the Study Guide. Corrections will be listed here; check back for updates.
Testable recording for Florence Price is titled “Negro Folksongs in Counterpoint No. 5, Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. Andantino." The testable title remains Five Folksongs in Counterpoint.
p. ii, xi, and 6
The testable title for the work by Machaut should be Messe de Nostre Dame. The title of the work in the third paragraph of paragraph 6 should also be listed as "Messe de Nostre Dame."
The last sentence on this page should read: "By the end of the Baroque Era […].”
Ravel will be considered a 20th-Century composer during the contest.
The genre for Ravel’s Bolero should be listed as Music for Ballet. The terms “Ballet” and “Music for Ballet” will not be considered testable content. The genre for Bolero will not be considered testable content.
The Circle of Fifths diagram on page xviii is incorrect. In the minor circle should read, starting with a minor:
Major: C–G–D–A–E–B–F♯ / G♭–D♭–A♭–E♭–B♭–F
The instrumentation for the Stamitz Sinfonia Pastorale in D Major, Op. 4, No. 2, should be Chamber Orchestra (oboe, horn, string ensemble).
Motetti spirituali is misspelled twice in the text on page 12. The correct spelling is Motetti spirituali.
