CONTEST MOVED TO APRIL 30
Dear MLC Coaches and Teams,

We wanted to bring you a few updates for this year’s virtual Music Listening Contest.  The MLC board has made the decision to delay the competition to FRIDAY, APRIL 30.  While there are no plans for teams from each region to gather at one site to compete, it is our hope that by rolling the date back a bit, each individual three-person team can still meet in person as a team to compete. Since the competition has been moved to April, we are also re-opening registration until March 1st to give new or additional teams the opportunity to register a team and compete in this year’s competition.  To register a team, go to https://www.musiclisteningcontest.com/

Here are more specifics regarding this year’s competition.

2020-21 Music Listening Contest Virtual Competition
1. Contest moved to Friday, April 30
2. Practice test examples will be released in mid-March
3. This year’s contest will be virtual and there will be one “championship” contest for all participants
4. Traditional 5 round contest (with some small tweaks)
        3 person teams (as usual).
100 points - 20 points per round (as usual).
Contestants will NOT need to worry about testable title.
Contestants will need to know dates (within 5 years) and be able to correctly
          spell testable composer names.
Contestants and coaches will sign an academic honesty document to help
          ensure contest integrity.

Round by round format (slightly different than normal):
  • Round 1: Listening Identification (20 examples of approximately 20   seconds) - answer via multiple choice on Google Form
  • Round 2: 10 listening examples with two corresponding questions - answer via multiple choice and short answer on Google Form
  • Round 3: Lightning-Listening Identification (20 examples of approximately 5 seconds) - answer via multiple choice on Google Form
  • Round 4: Trivia round - 20 potpourri questions from the study guide (could be in the form of pictures, audio, text, etc.)
  • Round 5: Mystery round - 10 examples of pieces from Study Guide composers, but NOT pieces from the Study Guide (identify testable composer name and select period of composition)

Each three-student team will need a “2 device” setup – one device to view the contest via Zoom or livestream and one device to answer and submit the Google Forms answer sheet.

DON’T FORGET YOUR T-SHIRTS! MLC T-Shirts are available for order at: https://www.customink.com/g/qrp0-00cb-gmru

While the contest may be a little later and look a little different, we look forward to a fun and exciting event and can’t wait to ‘see’ you there!!

Sincerely,

Your MLC Board
